My drive to and from work each day is along Colorado 7, between Lyons, CO and Estes Park. It is one of the most scenic drives in the area which affords me countless opportunities to photograph something new nearly every day. On this particular afternoon, I hit the canyon just as the sun was getting ready to set, and everything was illuminated so nicely that I just had to stop and soak in the views.

I LOVE the outdoors, and the mountains are my happy place. Many years ago, we visited the Canadian Rockies, and we instantly fell in love with what the mountains have to offer, from breathtaking scenery to countless wildlife opportunities. I remember traveling through a small town in British Columbia, Radium Hot Springs, where the sign that welcomes you to town says, “Mountains bring peace to the people.”. That quote and John Muir’s quote, “The mountains are calling and I must go” have resonated with me ever since. Whether it's shooting landscapes or wildlife, I find such a sense of peace and solitude just being there in the moment. Nourishment for the soul....a reminder for me that life is good.
